The role of lymphatic obstruction in the formation of ascites in a murine ovarian carcinoma.

چکیده
SUMMARY In normal mice, 60 to 70% of @ @ Cr-labeled erythrocytes injected i.p. appear in the peripheral bloodstream within 5 hr. In mice previously inoculated with a transplantable, ascites-producing ovarian tumor, this egress of labeled erythrocytes from the abdominal cavity is significantly impaired before ascites develops. Diaphragmatic lymphatic obstruction is demonstrated histologically. Since red cells leave the peritoneal cavity primarily by way of these lymphatic channels, these observations suggest that lymphatic obstruc tion by tumor cells is probably of pathogenetic importance in the accumulation of ascitic fluid.

Lymphatic obstruction in carcinomatous ascites.
The i.p. inoculation of C3H mice with 5 times 10-6 cells of a transplantable ovarian carcinoma invariably evokes accumulation of large amounts of ascitic fluid. Histological and pharmacotherapeutic studies indicate that obstruction to peritoneal lymphatic drainage is a key factor in the formation of carcinomatous ascites in this model. In the early stages of ascites formation, an intense inflam...
متن کاملCancer Therapy: Preclinical TGF-b Blockade Controls Ascites by Preventing Abnormalization of Lymphatic Vessels in Orthotopic Human Ovarian Carcinoma Models
Purpose: Ovarian cancer patients with malignant ascites have poor prognosis. The accumulation of ascites is caused by an imbalance between fluid extravasation from the blood vessels and reabsorption by lymphatic vessels. Whereas, the role of TGF-b in tumor progression has been well studied, the role of TGF-b in lymphatic vessel function is far from understood. Here, we sought to dissect the rol...
متن کاملFallopian Tube Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of Litrature
Primary fallopian tube carcinoma is a rare tumor that histologically and clinically resembles epithelial ovarian cancer. Here we introduce a case of tubal carcinoma in a postmenopausal woman. The diagnosis of primary fallopian tube carcinoma is rarely considered preoperatively and is usually first appreciated by the pathologist. Because of low frequency of tubal carcinoma, there are few systemi...
متن کاملA case report of peritoneal tuberculosis with multiple miliary peritoneal deposits mimicking advanced ovarian carcinoma
Background: Peritoneal tuberculosis accounts 1-2% of all forms of tuberculosis. Peritoneal tuberculosis is an important differential diagnosis for ovarian cancer in women with ascites, adnexal mass and elevated cancer antigen 125 (CA125) levels. We report a case of a 32- year -old woman with multiple miliary peritoneal deposits mimicking advanced ovarian carcinoma. Case Presentation: A 32-ye...
متن کاملProfound but dysfunctional lymphangiogenesis via vascular endothelial growth factor ligands from CD11b+ macrophages in advanced ovarian cancer.
Severe ascites is a hallmark of advanced ovarian cancer (OVCA), yet the underlying mechanism that creates an imbalance between peritoneal vascular leakage and lymphatic drainage is unknown. Here, we identified and characterized peritoneal lymphatic vessels in OVCA mice, a model generated by implantation of human OVCA cells into athymic nude mice. The OVCA mice displayed substantial lymphangioge...
